Why don't the Simpsons get older?

In 1987, Bart was about 10 years old, meaning that he must have been born around 1977. If that's the case, how come Bart isn't 37, today?

Because it's a cartoon with a floating timeline. The floating timeline means the characters don't age and events in their lives change as the series progresses.
