After rewatching some episodes i started to think why did they choose to make Homer a nuclea power plant employee? Was it simply because it has more repurcutions if things go wrong?
There was a power plant close to Matt Groening's home town, which may have inspired it. There's also the comedy factor of it, a complete idiot being in control of the plant's safety, causing meltdowns etc.
