Is there a limit to the number of event items (rods/pies) one can get from other player's towns by capturing criminals?

During my visits to other Springfield's, I  earn rods/pies as well as cash; then about half-way through my friend list, I stop getting the event items and only get the cash. Is this normal? If so, what is the limit, and what is the reset trigger to get event items again?

You only get event currency from the first 30 towns (90 interactions with criminals). After that, you just get cash. It resets 24 hours after the first interaction.
